Factors Affecting Color Flow Images: Color Line Density

On some ultrasound, systems you can also affect the spacing between adjacent color scan lines. Color line density refers to the spacing on the lines. Decreasing the line density increases the spacing between adjacent scan lines, thereby decreasing the number of lines in the color sector.

With fewer scan lines, color-processing times are shorter, so frame rates increase. However, because color line density determines the proximity of the color scan lines, it also affects the color spatial resolution.

Increasing the line density (A) increases resolution at the expense of a lower frame rate. A decrease in frame (B) rate results in a corresponding decrease in resolution with the benefit of an increased frame rate.
