He was such a talented singer and song writer. His songs were full of true emotions that have touched my heart. Some of his songs inspirations were from his real life experiences. His popular songs included "Take Me Home, Country Roads" (1971), "Leaving on a Jet Plane", "Calypso" (1975), and "Rocky Mountain High" (1973) . 《Take Me Home, Country Roads》was John Denver's signature song. It was written by John Denver, Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert, and initially recorded by John Denver. It was said that inspiration of the song had come while driving to a family reunion of Nivert's relatives in nearby Maryland. To pass the time en route, Danoff had made up a ballad about the little winding en route, Danoff had made up a ballad about the little winding roads they were taking. Later, he changed the story to fit that of an artist friend, who used to write to him about the splendors of the West Virginia countryside. Art is from life, but it is above life. 《Leaving on a Jet Plane》reminded me of John Denver's tragic death on October 12, 1997. The EZ Lite aircraft he was piloting crashed just off the coast of California at Pacific Grove, shortly after taking off from the Monterey Peninsula Airport. Life is fragile sometimes. We just have to cherish what we have. One of my favorite English quotes popped into my mind: "Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is mystery. Today is a gift. That is why we call it the present." 2001年fall,我们驱车去Shenandoah National Park。后来我一个人去买camping 的 fire wood.开的挺远的。这时候天渐渐暗了下来。
突然间，我发现自己开的路不就是 Denver 唱的 country roads吗？
peaceful sunset, smoky mountains，drifting leaves,agile deer.我就像是在天堂开车。一直到警察把我叫醒。给了我一个超速 ticket。回到camping site 已经黑了。大家等的都非常着急。
2010年 West Virginia 拿下Big East tournament championship 的时候，“Take Me Home, Country Roads" 久久响彻在Madison Square Garden。 后来WV 进入 NCAA ‘Final Four'.

Thanks for sharing your travel experience to Shenandoah Drive. I did not know the exact loaction of Shenandoah River until I searched it on Wikipedia just now. John Denver was also an avid pilot. His love of flying was secondary only to his love for music. He liked photography,too. He once said that "photography is a way to communicate a feeling." It is sad that he died while flying his personal aircraft at the age of 53.
