Under My Skin
Book Cover
In a far far away small peaceful red barn, there lived families of happy animals.
Among those families, there is a daddy sheep, Kevin and his son Scott. There’s a yellow girl chick, Cindy, living with he mommy hen. Finally there’s the young black goat called Mohammed.
Scott, Mohammed and Cindy are best friend.
One day, Mohammed went up to the Scott’s grassland, but Kevin saw Mohammed.
Kevin was very angry. He yelled “ Only white animals can eat there. Black goats make the grass die. Get off this land! ”
Mohammed didn’t understand why his friend’s daddy was being mean. He started to cry.
Cindy was walking across the grassland. She saw Mohammed crying near the river.
Cindy asked, “What’s wrong? Who made you cry?”
Mohammed looked up. “Scott’s daddy said that I’ll make grass die if I eat it.”
Cindy was surprised. “He was just being mean. Let’s go talk to them about this.”
Cindy and Mohammed went back to the sheep’s grassland. Scott and Kevin were eating grass.
Kevin yelled “Baa…baa…baa…why are you here? I told you to leave.”
Cindy got upset. She said “We are all barn animals and equal. We shouldn’t judge others because of their outside colour. It’s inside that matters. ”
Scott looked at his daddy and said “Baa…baa…baa…I can’t believe you said that to my friend daddy! That was stereotyping! ”
Kevin was very confused. “What’s stereotyping?”
“It’s when someone gets a set image of something not caring that every animal is different.”
Kevin felt very bad. He lowered his head and said, “Sorry, but that was just the image I got. How about you come over for dinner tonight?”
“Sure.” Said Mohammed, and everyone smiled once again.
