常听到英美人耸着肩膀说“Idon'tgiveadam!”，其中的“dam”一词其实最早
来自印地语词“damri”（铜钱），所以这个句子的意思就再清楚不过了──“俺连
付一分钱的兴趣都木有！”英国曾在1858年至1947年期间长期殖民统治英属印度（包括现印度、巴基斯坦、孟

逗号（comma）是很容易出错的。昨天的国际先驱导报上就有一篇题为Themostcomma
mistakes（作者BenYagoda）的文章，文章中一开头给出这样一个例句：
Iwenttoseethemovie,"MidnightinParis"withmyfriend,Jessie.（俺
和朋友Jessie去看了电影《午夜巴黎》）
一般来说，这个句子中的两个逗点都属于误用。因为，如果一定要这样用这两个逗

[转载]原来英语也讲歇后，而且更邪乎

话说中国人喜欢说谐音歇后语，一句话分两半说，前一部分出个谜语，后一部分利
用同音字或近音字相谐，由原来的意义引申出谜底。流传最广的歇后语，只要说出
前半截，“歇”去后半截，听者就可以领会和猜想出它的本意。不过，别以为只有
汉语才能歇后，英语中也有，而且比汉语更邪乎，比如下面的Dogandbone就是一

现在国内学英语还是很热。我个人的经验(可能也是很多人的经验)是，用到多少，学
