Waiting for Your Voice

I wrote an essay a couple of weeks ago. A friend of mine requested me to translate it into English so she could share it with her friend. I found it was difficult to translate precisely and had to modify it a little bit. Anyway, I tried. Here it is:

Waiting for Your Voice

It was such a quiet night! I was walking back and forth, accompanied by that ancient and sorrowful music, waiting for the arrival of your sweet voice.

Time was passing away quietly and slowly, keeping pace with the sound of the clock. I was waiting and waiting and the phone finally rang. To my disappointment, the voice was not yours, but my old friend’s.

For several times, I picked up the heavy phone and dialed gently that familiar number. Suddenly I stopped, with my finger being frozen at the last button, ‘cause I knew that you might be on the way home being exhausted from work. Perhaps, you might have already fallen asleep, preparing for the early arrival of another busy day.

Thus, I put down the phone and picked up a pen. I wrote down my feelings for you on a piece of paper. It was midnight. Darling, in your dream, did you ever know that there was a man in this world who was missing you so much?  I was sleepless, waiting for the coming of dawn light, so I could hear your sweet voice that has yet to come.
