yes, thrift store is very common and popular in japan,there are two stores near my home about 10min by walk, they sell used fashion,books,electrics,homewares,toys,games,even used LV,Channel.they are clean and relatively cheap.
also, they are chain stores,e,g OFF HOUSE(thrift store name)has over 800 members around japan.u can find them in almost every suburbs.
japanese woman loves handmade,DIY, country living becomes more and more popular these days,u can get various country living magazines in japan. and country style fashion and homeware stores everywhere.
