Today is Mother's Day. As a tradition of our family, Daddy and the two kids cooked the breakfast for me and didn't let me go down stairs until they were ready.
When the kids said I could open my eyes after they led me to one on each side to the dinner table, I saw on my plate was my favorite American breakfast –
First it was a note from the two kids with a big "MOM" on top of it. The note read:
Olivia – We love you so much! We care for you! Nobody is better than you for a mom! (Wow, I almost felt I don't serve such high remarks thinking of the times I had lost my patient and yelled at themL)
Evan – I love you! I hope you have a good day!
Then it was a "Top 10 Reasons Why I Love My Mom" list Olivia filled in at school. The cross-eye one is pretty funny and she also said she needed to re-do No.6 as it was a hard one since I don't sing that muchJ. I was moved by some of the nice things she said about me. I have been a little worried that she thinks I am not nice enough to her as I have always played the "white face" role in our family. And because she is older, there has been some discipline "unhappiness" between me and her before and I am afraid that she would hold grudge against me deep down in her heart. So reading this list just reminds me that I need to be more patient with my little girl as she is indeed very sweet.
The next was a Mother's Day card Olivia made for me in her Chinese painting class which is very beautiful.
I then found some finger puppet the kids made for me in one of the gift bags and a statue of "Sister and Brother by the Side" from another. Olivia told me the statue is to remind me of them when I miss them after they grow up and leave for college (by that time Evan will be taller and bigger than Olivia). Aww…that's very sweet and boy, don't they think ahead of time! J To be honest, I really don't want to think about that right now as I truly believe I will have hard time dealing with it once they are all leaving for collegeL.
Thank you guys for the nice and thoughtful Mother's Day gifts! J
