Last weekend, both boys had their hair cuts at Ms. Kim’s. We have been their loyal customer since we moved to PA even before the kids were born.
Except for the first time or two with someone in Hair Express near our neighborhood, Evan has been really good with Ms. Kim and Ms. Kim loves to cut his hair. Like this time, she was all prepared to cut my husband’s hair when she heard that Evan was going to have his as well. She talked to her son into taking over my husband (lucky his appointment showed up late). When Evan and I came in, Ms. Kim already had the booster seat ready and greeted him: “Hi, Evan!” Evan seemed so used to all this, he went right ahead climbing up the chair.
I only witnessed Evan’s haircut a couple of times. Most of the time he came with daddy. I remembered that sometimes I had to console him during the haircut as he was little afraid of the sounds from the hair-clippers and hair dryers. But that was a while ago, I was totally amazed by his calmness this time.
He just let Ms. Kim did whatever she had to do, bent his head up and down, tilted his head left and right, clipping, spraying, drying…even though at times he would frown his eye brows (see pictureJ). The only time he made any noise was when Ms. Kim cut his front hair. Because he did not bend his head down enough, the tiny hair fell all over his face, he blinked his eyes and started to blow his lips to get rid of the hair that fell on top of them which was really cute to watch. Of course, Ms. Kim immediately brushed off the hair on his face to make him feel more comfortable.
You could sense Ms. Kim’s affection towards Evan during the haircut. Whenever she changed her positions, she would smile at him and touch his cheek with her fingers. The young girl who came in late for her appointment was also impressed by how well this three-year old behaved. She sat there watching him for a long time with a smile on her face.
Finally the haircut was over, Ms. Kim gave Evan two pieces of candies, a big kiss on his cheek and took him off the chair. Evan ran towards me with his handsome new haircut all smiling. I gave him a hug and a kiss thinking how lucky I am to have two kids who both have very good relationships with their pediatricians, dentists, daycare teachers and hairdressers and never give a fuss about going to these people…well…except for getting blood work done which can be traumatizing based on my previous experience.
