Into the Kill Zone of Pokrovsk

THANKS TO ALL WHO BACK US ALONG OUR WAY
Dobropillia Anyone claiming that Russian soldiers are stationed here or in Bilozerske is either lying or simply unaware of the facts. The Ukrainian Armed Forces have consistently prevented them from entering the city, driving them out of the surrounding areas where they infiltrated in small groups after killing civilians inside cottages and farmhouses and then settling there more or less permanently.
That extensive counter-sabotage and counter-offensive operation resulted in the liberation of a dozen villages (Dorozhnie, Ivanivka, Kucheriv Yar, Nove Shakhove, Novoekonomichne, Mykolaivka, Rodynske, Rusyn Yar, Vesele, Volodymyrivka, Zolotyj Kolodiaz), the recapture of at least an equivalent amount of territory from enemy ДРГs, and most importantly the securing of the most vital remaining logistics route for supplying Kramatorsk after the Russians had compromised the main route from Izium via Sloviansk.

Having reached Kucheriv Yar, Vesele, and Zolotyj Kolodiaz and begun infesting nearby Rubizhne, Russian soldiers had actually started attacking that route as well using FPV drones like those described yesterday on these pages. The wrecks of pickups, vans, and car transporters I saw on the edges of the safety corridors that is, of fear and sometimes death between Ocheretyne and Mykhailivka confirm this. As I wrote long before the incident, the goal of the Russian generals who ordered the assault on the Dobropillia outskirts was precisely that: to reach the Kramatorsk water reserve and compromise the main road that runs alongside it.

However,a multitude of Chinese FPV drones hover in the skies above the city I write from. So many that its impossible to move safely without cover from someone with good aim, quick reflexes, and a cool head, or by speeding by in armored vehicles protected by robust electronic warfare devices. To be clear: despite the fact that some daredevils have secretly kept refreshment and package pickup points open, its unthinkable to record today thefootagethat Alla Perdei and I took from these same places this summer.

The dense network of defensive lines and fortifications built or erected by the Ukrainians in this part of Donbas also indicates that the Russians will face a very tough challenge when trying new assaults, even if for now they manage to conquer the ruins of Pokrovsk.
Along with the third road I noticed in photos after the Ukrainian social services raid,I can confirm on the ground that the other two routes to Pokrovsk (connected with Pavlohrad and Dobropillia, through Novy Donbas, Bilytske, and Rodynske) are operationaland used by the Ukrainian military for transporting vehicles and personnel or evacuating the wounded. I want to emphasize, from field observations, thatmany think tanks maps and assessments are often inaccurate and misleading. Relying on reports based on the hype of various bloggers rather than direct reports from the field creates misunderstandings, alarmism, misjudgments, and often fake news. In wartime, even in terms of information, this isan unacceptable oversightbecause disinformation (not to be confused with propaganda) influences public opinion and can even affect government decisions.Field reporting carries risks but offers a less biased snapshot of reality.

As the photos and videos Ive captured confirm, the situation is not as bad as its being portrayed, and the morale of Ukrainian troops is good. What several Ukrainian news agencies have reported is true:Kyivs Central Command has deployed its best unmanned units to the Pokrovsk front, turning its perimeter into a kill zone. So much so that as I described just yesterday on these pages the Russians are massively refusing the suicidal order to rush into the rubble.
The weather conditions have changed suddenly.A heavy snowfall has fallen in these areas of Donbas, leaving perhaps little room for further maneuvers. Nonetheless, the Russians continue to concentrate half of the nearly 6,000 glide bombs they drop every month on Ukraine on the entire Pokrovsk sector primarily the one I am writing from as well as a third of the strikes carried out along the entire front line.

Giorgio Provinciali)
