Because those people don't eat or cook Chinese food, neither do I.
I don't go to Asian market very often, maybe once or twice a year for a bag of frozen dumplings or sliced shabu shabu beef. There's no need to shop for Asian food if you are used to just a salad or baked chicken with potato for dinner.
That's me. I think most people who are grown up or have lived here for many years are the same. It's just not our familiar culture or language anymore, the Chinese grocery stores feel foreign and strange. The smell is off putting, the shelving is disorganized. And also Trader Joe's or Aldi is for people with busy lives and care less about what they eat except for its nutritional values. A few staple items are enough for me in the grocery stores. I don't look through all the aisles, only go for things I need the most: milk, eggs, potatoes, onions, bananas, etc... Asian foods are not on my shopping lists.
