我们的systems manager 昨天在办公室待了一晚上。他要给VM hosts 升级,中间出现问题。四个小时的计划,变成了十二个小时的劳作。他可以半途回家,早上再回来等VMware 的客服帮助解决问题,但是那样我们的运作就会受到几个小时的影响。他决定待下来,自己想办法解决。我早上发现系统有问题,发邮件/打电话给他,他说遇到问题,还在解决。我七点赶到办公室,陪着他把问题解决并且收尾。
我们都把加班解决系统 emergency 当成份内的事。但是每逢这种时候,我总是记着写邮件感谢他,并 copy 公司的COO, 财务总监,供应链总监等公司运作的决策人,如果我不说,他们不会知道这位员工在这件事上的贡献。下面是我写给 systems manager并 copy 给其他人的邮件:
Hi,xxxxx
thank you so much for walking in the office yesterday in the morning and just left the office 30 minutes ago today.
If you did not spend the whole night resolving the VM host issue on your own and we had to wait for VM tech support to working on it this morning, our xxxx/xxxx interface would have been down for at least 4 hours this morning.
