Museums in washington DC

On the second day of our vacation, we went to the National Museum of Natural History. I liked the Museum of Natural History as it had many interesting exhibits, like dinosaur skeleton fossils, evolutionary diagrams, and mummies from ancient Egypt.

The first thing we saw in the museum were dinosaur skeleton fossils. There was a triceratops, a brontosaur, and, naturally, a T-rex. The T-rex was massive, towering with its 25 feet in height!

There are rooms called “galleries” bursting with interesting exhibits in the museum. My favorite one is called “out of water”. It talked about the benefits of living on land, such as new food, shelter, and safety. It described the challenges faced by the pioneers of land, such as breathing, moving around, and drying out. It showed us how they overcame these challenges by adapting and evolving lungs, legs, and waterproof skin.

My second favorite gallery is “Mummies and Bone”. There were real mummies and coffins! The gallery showed us a mummy boy. Using different techniques, scientist managed to find out the gender and age of the boy when he died, and how he could have looked like. They displayed a coffin with Egyptian writing on it describing how to obtain eternal life with the gods, as the Egyptian believed in these things. On the coffin, there are instructions of what to do to live forever, so that the person in the coffin would know what to do to get to the afterlife.

We went to many other galleries and exhibits before going back to the Grand Hyatt Hotel. As we walked back to the hotel, I wished we stayed there longer.
