Yoga and kettlebell swings warmed me up and kicked off
the day. Only the toes and fingers felt the early morning
freezing air. It was great to get back on the trail after a
month away from running.
For the past months, I have gone back to coffee-drinking.
Every morning at work, I yield to the strong pull. My dose
is modest, usually one or two espressos or 12oz of black
joe, but I hate the power caffeine has over me. Free drinks
at the work place certainly play a part in my addiction.
On the weekends, I often take Tim to Starbucks to work on
math. I love the vibe of the shop where melodious music
plays, baristas greet warmly, and friends meet and share the
moment. Unfortunately, I have to order something and often
go for coffee as the other options are either a bigger
rip-off or total crap.
I did two sprints over the first half of the 4-mile loop and
felt sluggish in the second, a sign that I seriously needed
to shape up. Toward the end, an elderly gentleman walking
his dog called out "Sandals!" as I approached and passed by.
"Yes and they are very comfortable," I laughed, "after four years!"
The rest of the day was mostly spent in the car, resting
instead of driving, while waiting in the parking lots for
Tim attending a BJJ seminar and later the Chinese school. My
body was on fire from the morning jog and I felt so tired.
One good thing was that I didn't even have the will to go to
the coffee shop. Maybe I should make a rule--no coffee
without running first.
It was a sleepless night. My leg muscles were not tight or sore
but the burning sensation throughout the body kept me awake.
What a run!
I hiked Mission Peak this morning and felt great. Toward noon, however, I'm getting sleepy.
