(happening now... david: springfield native and two time grammy winner dottie dillard's estate sale kicked off today in springfield. people began lining up hours before it started. our callie rainey visited the home that belonged to dottie. callie? callie family members, friends and community members are getting a last chance to collect memoribilia of late singer dottie dillard and her mother. dottie sang background vocals for nashville sound, performed live on the arthur godfrey show and was a member of the anita kerr quartet. dottie's niece sally young says it's hard giving her family heirlooms away... sally young, niece "the particular sale is both my grandmothers. everything that had belonged to that generation and my aunts as well." but she is thankful she has her own possessions that remind her of them. sally young, niece " there's a picture of my father right there. there's like 18 of these. i have one for me and my sister so i don't need 16 more." some memoribilia of dottie's singing career was donated to the history on the square museum . sally young "like the dress she wore when she accepted the grammy or some of the dresses she sang in that were just so gorgeous and all of the letters and papers and christmas cards that she got from burl ives, ernie tubb and hank williams." sally says knowing she can still see some of her aunt's belongings makes the estate sale easier. she says she was shocked to see people waiting to get inside. sally young "people like to estate sale but there's also a mystique around my aunt. a lot of people in the community loved her." sorority sister and family friend lesley stevenson spent a lot of time with dottie. her own father was a singer in the 40s, giving lesley an appreciation for the music industry. lesley stevenson, sorority sister "she just had a wonderful life so it's going be interesting to look at things i didn't see when we were friends." jerry haden" i have two pianos and we sang and had a good time." jerry haden and dottie shared a passion for music. jerry haden, friend "i just wanted to see what she had and maybe get a momento" a momento to some... beloved new keepsakes for others. sally young "it's good to know that there's people that are going to take this stuff into their own homes and love it." callie: if you are interested in stopping by and seeing what dottie dillard's estate has to offer.... the sale lasts today until 7... hours are from 8 - 3 on thursday and friday.... and wraps up on saturday from 8 til)
