The '70s version, with its perfect blend of seriousness and humor, is the second-best version I've seen. Michael York, Oliver Reed, Richard Chamberlain, Raquel Welch, Faye Dunaway, Chuck Heston, etc. Classic! The dubbing in this one is really distracting. I'd prefer French with subtitles.

The Three Musketeers – Part One: D’Artagnan

D’Artagnan arrives in Paris trying to find his attackers after being left for dead, which leads him to a real war where the future of France is at stake. He aligns himself with Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, three musketeers of the King.

Visually, cinematographically, and drama- and action-wise, this is a terrific version ... The dialogue, at times, I found to be a bit simplistic.
I am eagerly anticipating the release of Part 2.
PS: The dialogue is a bit out of sync with the image, but not horribly awful.

Perhaps I missed it, maybe was in the beginning which wasn't exactly there.
I thought the Three Musketeers fought 4 the Protestant King Richard of England.
Not King Louis of France. The three kings of France, Louis, were ruthless in their pursuit of power.
Especially King Louis the 3rd.
His political pursuits led France into its decay.

At about 46:00 into the movie, the glasses and the Portuguese man-of-war give it away. They did not have that kind of technology for that type of glasses, and no one but Portugal had men-of-war Galleons like that in the 13th century. They were built in Sagres by the disciples of Infant Don Henrique of Portugal. FUBA!!!!

Why is the whole plot just essentially trying to cover up the infidelity of one woman

, like, who are the bad guys again?

In either case, this was well written and excellent acting. It's a shame they didn't have enough money to do some better voice-overs, because I'm 100,000% certain the main cast speaks fluent English, hahaha, but the studio probably didn't want to pay them extra to do an English voice-over.
