[] For people who don’t think it’s a fair comparison—I hear you! I appreciate your insights and apologize if I didn't make it clear in the video since this comparison isn’t about techniques [] , it’s about how kids' performance can be shaped by the Politics & Society situation they are in [] ?, and how we want our kids to sing. Further clarifications that replies some of the comments: 1. The video is not judging the children—it simply shows how a child’s performance can change with or without an instructor’s excessive expression teaching. 2. It’s not about genres, techniques, talent or autotune/vocal technology. I believe vocal training should support a child’s natural expression, not take it away or distort it. 3. This isn’t a commentary on the conflict between North and South Korea. I’m not South Korean—I chose these two examples because they clearly illustrate point #1. You’re welcome to watch the full video on this topic: [] https://youtu.be/SS8CX63o91U?si=iYmbu4V6OnN8B52T (The short can’t cover the full discussion!) To those from Korea, China, or anyone familiar with life under authoritarian regimes—you may already understand what this comparison is about. The point is, that kids behave differently because of the political and cultural environment they grow up in [] [] ? [] . [] One key fact: The North Korean girl can’t even reply here on YouTube—that alone says a lot. Both kids are talented [] . The first one has better-crafted techniques, but like I said, it’s not about nurturing the kid’s natural expression—it’s about shaping an artificial emotion. The second girl may be less perfect in technique, but that’s her own voice. The first one sings how the teacher or even the regime wants her to sing, and this style can be duplicated across many kids, making North Korean group performances look uniform but unnatural. And sometimes they behave happily just to glorify their leader and showcase how great their country is even if they probably don't experience it themselves in reality. Refusal is not an option and may lead to severe consequences there. My personal belief: A child’s performance should start with natural expression—and then grow with skill development. If you still think the North Korean girl’s performance style is better, the only question I have is: [] Would you send your child to North Korea to learn this? Or would you rather they sing freely, like the South Korean girl, who can express herself naturally? [] [] Finally, if this message still doesn’t resonate with you, that’s okay—it might not be for you. Having different opinions is a treasure. Hope you have a good day!

The first girl doing it in the old-fashioned way... It's how it is in the old days; facial expressions represent emotions...

I think the North Korean girl sang amazing. Her gestures match what she was singing. If she sang that song without the gestures and facial expressions and just stood there, the performance would be dull. On the other hand, the South Korean girl didn't make gestures and did not make many facial expressions because she was singing a sweet, soft song. Adding gestures to her singing will spoil the atmosphere of the song. So the performance will always be based on the type of song that was sang or played.

The first kid's singing is amazing. You said you were going to compare the difference between them singing. You didn't even talk about their talent. Even if Kim Sol Mae's performance was taught, she did it amazingly, and it takes talent. In addition, she is much younger and can do such an amazing performance. Both kids' voices are amazing.

For me, the first girl sings better. Her raw voice is angelic, and her expressions add to her overall stage presence.

I like the first kid, the North Korean; she is not autotuned. I think she was being trained to sing in a stage play. The dynamics of her voice are superb.

I find it unfair to dismiss the North Korean girl's performance as fake simply because her style is more refined and disciplined. While the South Korean child sings in a more natural and casual way, the North Korean girl demonstrates an extraordinary level of technical skill, stage presence, and emotional engagement—qualities that typically take years to develop. Her gestures and vocal control aren't signs of inauthenticity; they're evidence of rigorous training. We wouldn’t call an opera singer forced for mastering their craft, so why apply that criticism to a child excelling in a highly traditional style? If anything, her ability to perform with such precision and maturity at a young age speaks to an exceptional level of talent.

What's wrong with rehearsing facial expressions and gestures? Especially for a kid? I don't see you calling kpop groups meticulously dancing "artificial" or "forced". The North Korean kid was way more entertaining anyways the south Korean one was just standing there like a statue. Just because you're on bad terms with a nation doesn't mean everything they do is bad, because in many aspects, your nation is no better, maybe even worse.

Why?If one is taking the first girl side then he/she will say that the second girl is showing no physical or facial movement at all as she is so nervous that she could only sing as per the result of vigorous training of it. Whereas the first girl is enjoying her song and giving her best and life to the song. Fact is no girl is singing her song at random, both are fully rehearsed and performing in the way she is taught. So both are looking cute in their own ways.
