Russell Crowe "Cal McCaffrey," Ben Affleck "Stephen Collins", Rachel McAdams "Della Frye" & Helen Mirren ("Cameron, the editor-in-Chief of Washington Post)—State of Play

Plot:

Ben Affleck's "Stephen Collins (congressman)" was a roommate of Russell Crowe's "Cal McCaffrey."

Ben robbed Russell's girl-friend "Annie" and married her. Annie: "My Dad warns me about politicians; the only people he hated more were journalists."  https://youtu.be/4ua3AkVob-w?t=2586

They met again in a bar, drinking.

Annie asked, "I'm making you nervous?"

Cal: "You always did."

Annie: "Well, they say, sex is the best way to ruin a friendship." "Who are they? The teens, the beast?" "Tell me it did not ruin ours." "No. It didn't ruin anything for us."

Ben had an affair with his assistant, Sonia Baker (25-year-old assistant, double agent being paid $26,000/month, but falling in love with Ben's character), who accidentally died on a subway platform.

@1:05:23 "Now. I'm just a source. the pressure is off." Annie came to Cal apartment, but, Cal said to her, "It is too late now. You made the choice."

@1:29:19:  Stephan: "You don't care about me, only to seek your story of truth. You screwed my wife; my girl-friend got pregnant—you did not tell me. I won't do such a thing to you as a friend."

Cal: "Sorry for all of these...."

$20,000 per hour story ...

Congressman George Ferguson recommended Sonia Baker to Stephan Collins, leading to all stories unfolding...

@1:52:52: "You know. It's laughable, your sense of your self-worth. Nobody reads your newspaper. "

"No. People know the difference between real news and bullshit. Someone care enough and print the truth on record."

Stephen hired his military buddy Robert Bingham to follow Sonia.

Gossip blog ("Della Faye" by Rachel McAdams) trivial: Rachel McAdams is approximately 5 feet 4 inches (163 cm) tall.Rachel McAdams has a high-pitched, squeaky voice that is irritating to listen to.

It seems like there may have been a mix-up in pronunciation! If you're referring to Rachel McAdams' character name "Della Faye [Frye]", the name "Faye" would be pronounced as /fe?/, not "fire".

If someone referred to her as "Della Fire", they might have accidentally misheard or mispronounced "Faye" as "fire," which is a different word altogether with the IPA /fa??r/ or /fa?r/.

So, "Della Faye" is pronounced /?d?l? fe?/, while "Della Fire" would be /?d?l? fa??r/ or /?d?l? fa?r/.

"Quid pro quo" is a Latin phrase that means "something for something" or "this for that," typically referring to a mutual exchange. In context, it suggests a fair trade or reciprocal agreement.

If you're referring to a specific exchange, let me know! I'm happy to help in any way I can—whether it's with information, insights, or something else you're curious about.

This is just a slow Tuesday for Trump and his secretarial nominees. And the idea that a once-great Washington Post (who broke the Watergate scandal) would cover people like this is laughable. Where are our Woodward and Bersteins now that we really need them?

Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe leads an all-star cast, including Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams & Helen Mirren, in the gripping thriller about deception, manipulation & corruption. When D.C. reporter Cal McCaffrey (Russell Crowe) is assigned to investigate the murder of an assistant to an up-and-coming politician (Ben Affleck), he uncovers a conspiracy that threatens to bring down the nation's power structures. In a town of spin-doctors and wealthy power brokers, he will discover one truth: when fortunes are at stake, no one's integrity, love or life is safe. From director Kevin Macdonald of The Last King of Scotland, State of Play brings together strong performances, riveting suspense and is "sophisticated, intelligent and powerful" (Shawn Edwards, Fox-TV).

What I love about this movie is the landlines and face-to-face communication, cell phones just starting to be carried, and the newspapers being replaced with bloggers in the online world. Now, in 2025, very few people, like myself, age 71, can live and function WITHOUT A CELL PHONE or landline. Home Wi-Fi and a laptop are my choices for the online communication world.hand-purple-blue-peace
