In the past, when I first watched it, I would dislike Daisy very much, and felt that she had failed Gatsby's love; now, when I watch it again, I understand her sadness, she is a symbol,
As the commentary said, it is a symbol of upper class society, beauty and a "dream". She never received true love throughout her life. The man she met loved her appearance and the upper class she represented. In the end he didn't choose Gatsby, Because in that era, if a woman like her wanted to keep food and clothing for the rest of her life, Then the mutually beneficial relationship established between her first wife and her was stable for her.
Gatsby's social class could never overcome the discrimination of that era. As the theme song goes, "If I'm no longer beautiful, will you still love me?" If her beauty will eventually disappear one day, all she can do is to choose a still prosperous second half of her life instead of a momentary crazy love that may not be true.
The Great Gatsby Party Scene (FULL)
During the 1920’s America was motoring into 10 years of economic prosperity, with the American’s being fueled by illegal alcohol and radical ideas. They were obsessive, excessive, dreamers that reality was to slow to catch them. And what better way to enter our own roaring 20s by taking a look at a man that encapsulates the American ideology at the time, the poster boy of the American dream, a man who worked from nothing to be richer than the Gods themselves, a man known as The Great Gatsby.
Originally a book written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and then taken to the big screen 4 times, Gatsby has been in the consciousness of Americans since 1925. A year that was the midway point for America’s high times. But I’m not looking at Fitzgerald's original book - maybe for another time - nor the big screen adaptations from 1926, 1949, or 1974. My attention goes to Baz Lurhman’s adaptation in 2013.
Jay Gatsby - Leonardo DiCaprio: Known for his charismatic and enigmatic performances, DiCaprio would bring depth and complexity to the role of the enigmatic millionaire.
Nick Carraway - Tobey Maguire: Having worked with DiCaprio before in "The Great Gatsby," Maguire's portrayal of Nick Carraway would provide a sense of relatability and sincerity to the narrative as the story's narrator and observer.
Daisy Buchanan - Carey Mulligan: With her ability to portray both vulnerability and allure, Mulligan would capture the essence of Daisy Buchanan, the object of Gatsby's affection and a symbol of the elusive American Dream.

Carey Mulligan is a dedicated actor. I didn't realize she was such a happy and adorable person! Good for her! Carey comes across as slightly shy and giggly, but with elegant sophistication (minus the pretense). Her subtly posh inflections and pronunciations when she speaks contrasts with her irresistible elven cuteness. Then she tops it off with humility and charm. And she nearly inspired Craig to be a gentleman!
Carey is every comedian's wet dream....just laughs at everything you say, is beyond adorable and intelligent to top of it off. I've seen her in other talk shows and she's so much more serious. Craig just brings out the little girl in her and it's incredibly sweet to watch.
Tom Buchanan - Joel Edgerton: Edgerton's commanding presence and versatility as an actor would make him a fitting choice for Tom Buchanan, Daisy's wealthy and arrogant husband who represents the old money aristocracy.
Jordan Baker - Elizabeth Debicki: Debicki's elegance and poise would suit the role of Jordan Baker, a professional golfer and confidante to Daisy, adding depth to the ensemble cast.
Myrtle Wilson - Isla Fisher: Fisher's ability to portray complex characters with a hint of naivety and desperation would make her a compelling choice for Myrtle Wilson, Tom Buchanan's mistress, and a symbol of the lower class striving for upward mobility.
George Wilson - Jason Clarke: Clarke's understated yet powerful performances would bring depth to the character of George Wilson, Myrtle's husband, and a representation of the working-class struggle in the face of the American Dream.
Meyer Wolfsheim - Ben Kingsley: With his commanding presence and gravitas, Kingsley would bring authenticity to the role of Meyer Wolfsheim, Gatsby's mysterious and influential associate involved in organized crime.
Tom Buchanan - Isla Fisher: Fisher's ability to portray complex characters with a hint of naivety and desperation would make her a compelling choice for Tom Buchanan, Daisy's husband, and a symbol of the old money aristocracy.
Catherine - Gemma Ward: As Myrtle's sister, Gemma Ward would bring a sense of vulnerability and complexity to the character of Catherine, adding depth to the ensemble cast.
This cast would bring together a mix of established talent and rising stars, each capable of embodying the complexities and nuances of F. Scott Fitzgerald's iconic characters in Baz Luhrmann's visually stunning and emotionally resonant adaptation of "The Great Gatsby."
