Janice Woods Windle's novel "Real Women" inspired the made-for-TV film. Sarah is motivated to provide for her children and defend her family after losing her spouse and home. Sarah's sister, Euphemia Ashby King, is played by Annabeth Gish. Angelina Jolie plays Georgia Lawshe Woods, a strong, independent woman who succeeds in business.
The three women's love, battle, and adventure story spans the film. . While the protagonists fight for independence and equality, the film explores sisterhood, parenting, and women's rights.
