An epic adventure of mystery and obsession unfolds when Charles Morritz (Samuel L. Jackson), an appraiser of rare musical instruments, discovers a one-of-a-kind, red violin at a prestigious Montreal auction house. Convinced he's found an authentic long- lost masterpiece, Morritz uncovers the spectacular journey of the priceless violin, how it changed hands and the lives of all who touched it. When the violin's shocking secret is finally revealed, Morritz must wrestle with his own demons and choose between burying the truth, and risking everything.

This movie is incredible. Really good music, like classical music instruments are so beautiful and sooth your soul. And what this violin was painted with truly put life in it. I was just thinking about this movie just a few days ago, and here it is. A true masterpiece of music and story line right here. Thanks YouTube.

Last watched this 18 years ago and I don't know why I have waited so long to watch it again. However, I could of sworn the last scene was the Samuel Jackson character getting home and giving the violin to his daughter?!

I watched this when it first came out on DVD and LOVED it. Have looked for it several times over the years and couldn't find it again. That haunting melody and the violin's journey through history is captivating. SO happy you brought it to us. A masterpiece!

Enchanting fascinating story. Beautifully written and conceived from start to finish, gorgeous music. I absolutely believed every word of it. Loved Samuel Jackson playing against type. Who knew? And someone paid attention in their World History and did their cultural anthropology homework on the Roma for the backstory ????

Being someone who owns instruments, I can really relate to this. There is something about them that is like nothing else. And when you can coax your emotions out of them with the sweetest sounds, it's an other worldly experience. Everyone should learn to play at least one instrument. It adds a dimension to living that can't be had with anything else.

Incredible movie, the depth of meaning, the symbolism. Every time I watch it, I see something different, something I didn't see before. Joshua Bell is a master violinist.

Blood and tears were put into the violin as it was created, and owned by others, metaphorically and psychically. I will now imagine this when I admire further antiques that I come across. I love the ending where once again, the violin is in the hands of someone who will preserve it.

Great movie Charles (Samuel L Jackson) search all his life for that violin as with many relic hunters. Many wanted to have it in their possession due to the mystic, beauty, sound and history of such a fine violin.

That ending was fast and fabulous. What a good movie. And the tag, was perfect to the mystery. And you couldn't of asked for the simple soft music of the violin, with the cards, showing the credits.

If a person understands their heart they understand love. I mean that Individually. Example. If you were on an island for 1 yr but had food but no others their just you. But one night you have a dream and offered only one choice of music . But that choice will be your resue or your bondage to be stuck on the island. In the dream your heart tells you choose a music that will bring your heart to life and powered by emotions compassion to give strength in simplicity. This is kinda like this movie. The depth of a heart is the depth of a soul. I'm not saying all the music in the movie was wonderful. But music not words but music can wake up a heart because of its depths to captivate what the mind can't see. The heart is the breath to the body. Rachmaninoff is one composer who's music was compassionate to make the heart dream. One of his great ones was paganini. From the movie....Somewhere in Time...great story line too. Good movie. Just a thought. ????
