Arguably the most blistering line from Hillary Clinton's nomination acceptance speech Thursday night was this: "A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons."
It captured a legitimate concern many Americans have about Donald Trump's temperament. And however Trump responded to it, Clinton wins.
If he stayed silent, he was admitting defeat. And if he spoke out and objected, she's proven right.
Trump chose the latter.
As of Friday around 1:30 p.m. Eastern, Trump had sent 21 tweets since Clinton's speech, many of them in the broken, angry style that differentiate Trump's whimsical musings from the coordinated messages that come from his campaign staff.

But there’s a bigger problem, a philosophical problem. Trump’s m-ilitary philosophy perhaps gives us insight into his background as a businessman. In his world, every party is a rational actor. Deals get made over dollars and cents; interests and preferences are apparent and communicated.
In this world, Trump would be right. Why would anyone go to w-ar with a country with a m-ilitary the size of the United States? In a conventional w-ar, they would get trounced. Of course, people who study international relations know this. That’s why modern democratic societies don’t fight one another. Democratic societies behave rationally, and the weaker party would never commit to a w-ar that it would lose.
