Professor Yu came back from China. He went straight home from the airport to give his wife a surprise.
He walked into the luxury apartment building, took the elevator, and approached the door of his apartment. He used the key to gently open the door, and immediately smelt something good. He went in, found delicious food on the table. He wondered: How does she know I come back today? There must be a natural bond between a husband and a wife - no wonder she is my wife, he thought.
He came to the kitchen, saw his wife was busy cooking. He crept up and blindfolded her eyes. She trembled and immediately guessed it was him. She turned and hooked her arms around his neck. He liked to play this game since they were dating back in college.
His wife blamed him for not calling her by mobile phone when he got off the plane. He said they had been married for so many years, she was a belly worm in his gut, knowing him from inside out. It wouldn’t be necessary.
She said she forgot to get wine, asking him to buy a bottle.
Professor Yu went to the street, walked a few blocks and made a few turns to an expensive wine selling store. He visited here often. Unexpectedly, a "Closed" sign was hanging on the door. He looked at his watch, it was still early. Why was it closed? A man holding flowers in his hand hurriedly pushed into the door. Professor Yu puzzled and followed inside. The shop owner greeted him with enthusiasm. There were several other customers in the store. The guy just came in was calling someone on a mobile phone while selecting wine bottles. His face was full of happiness. Professor Yu told the owner that the sign on the front door was wrong. The owner smiled and answered that Today is April Fools' Day! Professor Yu nodded, he forgot about this while he was in China.
Professor Yu bought a bottle of authentic French red wine that he and his wife liked the most. He came to the counter, standing behind the guy holding flowers. After paying for the wine, Professor Yu jubilantly whistled on the way home. He met the guy again in front of the apartment elevator, who was waiting there. They politely greeted each other. The elevator door was opened, they both came in, and the guy quickly pressed the button. They went to the same floor, but he never saw him before.
When the elevator stopped, the man trotted out the elevator. Professor Yu dragged behind by looking at his back, a tall and handsome figure. The guy stopped at the door of his apartment, and rang the doorbell. Professor Yu hid himself at a corner of corridor.
The door opened, the guy immediately handed over the flowers and the wine bottle. The lady anxiously said to the guy: I just called you a moment ago, why do you still come? He is back! The guy smiled and replied: Sweet heart, are you kidding me? Today is the April Fool's Day.
Professor Yu turned around and quietly walked away. He wondered on the empty street all by himself. A homeless man asked him for money on the roadside. He handed over the red wine bottle. But the homeless man did not want it, yelling the bottle contains poison, everyone knew Today is the April Fool's Day.
Professor Yu bitterly smiled and shook his head, he went forward. He remembered in China at the airport terminal, a pretty girl who worshipped him tearfully begged him to stay. He refused. He has a wife on the other side of the Pacific Ocean, who needs him. He couldn’t betray her.
On this April Fools' Day, Professor Yu finally realized that he was the one being fooled all the time.
