The strange wedding [1]

Franz Hohler [2]

Translated by xia23

A handstand [3] and a headstand [4] wanted to enter the state of matrimony together. They had met each other in a public swimming pool and wished immediately that they were definitely for each other.

The wedding took place on a Friday afternoon at half past one, and there were lots of guests. As the engaged couple entered the church – the headstand with a tight-fitting white wedding dress and a small garland on the feet –, everyone saw that it was a handstand and a headstand, and was somewhat confused. But the priest knew what the propriety was, and began the liturgy in a handstand.  So all the guests stood themselves on their heads or on their hands, because they did not want to stand out unpleasantly. The sexton brought the rings. While he balanced rings on the feet, and the organist played only fortissimo, because he stood on the manual with his head. It would be all going well, if the organ had not turned over suddenly, and pipes had rolled down from the gallery, and the pillars [5] of the church had groaned, and the vault [5] had rolled down, and the pulpit [6] had thundered in the hall, and because the floor with bench can not raise into the air,  all wedding guests were buried, only the handstand and the headstand escaped from there, went on the honeymoon trip with two somersaulting friends and lived in concubinage in God’s name.
