57. Treat Your Enemy Well

While growing up, I was told to be tough against enemies, because kindness or mercy towards enemies was considered cruelty against oneself plus family and friends. It was not until very recently that I realized that one should treat his enemies well instead. For one thing, enemies help one grow by pointing out his weaknesses, which is invaluable. For another, they might be turned into friends under the right circumstances. In addition, eventually, one will find out that his biggest enemy is himself.
