third day, i started installing extra programs. mainly xine, thunderbird, and real player
xine had some problems after i executed the "yum install xine libdvdcss" command, it stated some demuxer was missing and suggested me to reinstall xine-lib. this problem occured to me in fedora 7 installation as well, but i saved for tomorrow to solve since i got lot of stuffs to do today (Christmas!!!)
real player itself was installed with no problem, and the speed was really satisfactory (self executable file, no more ./configure stuffs). however, i had some sort of problems installing real player plugin into firefox. i knew i supposed to use this program of nspluginwrapper for a 32-bit plugin in 64-bit system, but the problem was although i knew for sure the program was installed on my computer, i just couldn't find it! (not in any sort of "bin/sbin" folder, couldn't find an entry in "man") finally, with some luck, i noticed everything 32-bit plugins being put into "/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins" would automatically being "nsplugged" into firefox. the plugin was still not working however, after i tested it with some webpages
Talked about plugins, i'm so glad that Fedora 8 came alone with the so-called IcedTea java plugins, so we didn't have to go through a mess installing java plugins
thunderbird seemed to be the only program i installed today without any error. also i moved the backup info into .thunderbird and changed the profile.ini, then all my settings for thunderbird came back
Merry Christmas, left so much to be done in the future ;-)
