The following sentence is what I heard on my way to worktoday.
"Kawakarpo is an important god in this Tibetan region," village chief Da Zhaxi explains. "Our forefathers said ifthis god doesn't exist, we can't survive. If it wasn't for this snow mountain,we'd never have achieved this level of economic development."
It's supposed to be the translated words from the villagechief Anni Zhilei. If you heard the Chinese version that he originally spoke,you will find the translation is intentionally altered to say "Tibetan region" instead of "Chinese Region" clearly spoken by him.
Why this is significant? This shows that an importantquality of the press has been intentionally disregarded. I believe NPR, the most prestigious radio station in the States, should abide by the most basic principles that underpin the integrity of any press – neutrality and the respect of facts.
Anni Zhilei's comment indicated that he considers this region is Chinese region instead of Tibetan region. While the whole sentence is almost a literal translation except comes to the “Chinese region” which was deliberately translated into “Tibetan region” which I presume it better fits the translator’s personal inclination about how this region supposed to be classified.I hate any kind of selectivity, filtration and fabricationby the propaganda out of any purpose.
