Keane is a British rock band that I’ve been obsessed with lately. It’s made of one keyboard, one drum, one glorious voice.
One of their most famous songs is probably Somewhere Only We Know.
…
Oh simple thing where have you gone?
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin
And if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?
…
I’m listening to their first album Hope and Fears right now. What’s the odds that you are listening to them too while you read this?
Perhaps it’s not in their lyrics, but every time I listen to them, I sense a tinge of desperation and maybe that’s what drew and kept me in.
Music transports. Takes us to a different space where our mood is colored our senses heightened. It lifts and lands us in a time and sphere that only exists in our heads.
I have to thank Pandora the iPad app for the discovery of Keane.
I was probably listening to my Maroon 5 radio when Somewhere Only We Know came on. I liked the song almost instantaneously that I stopped in my tracked and googled the heck out of it.
I set up a Keane radio channel in Pandora but mostly I listened to them in YouTube because their live performance has such a palpable tremendous energy that no studio recording can capture.
And through these youtubes, I watched the lead (& the only) vocal grew from a chubby boy to a lean man.

So little time
Try to understand that I'm
Trying to make a move just to stay in the game
I try to stay awake and remember my name
But everybody's changing
And I don't feel the same
…
I don’t feel the same even though I’m still sending out the same type of sentimentality.
