     达赖喇嘛驻台代表才嘉3月17日表示，北京当局对於西藏地区的镇压，目前仍在持续扩大当中，现在已经从拉萨扩散到四川的阿坝县、青海、甘肃等地区。单单16日一天，阿坝的武力镇压就已经造成至少十三人以上的死亡，他强烈谴责北京当局以武力血腥镇压西藏人民和平抗议的行径。 (博讯 boxun.com)
   
    才嘉17日下午举行记者会，一开始就先为近日来在西藏发生的流血冲突中死亡的民众默哀一分钟。默哀后，才嘉表示，三月十日是每年达赖喇嘛针对西藏问题表达意见的日子，当天不过是十一位信众上街游行，为了争取宗教自由，并希望能够让达赖喇嘛回国，就遭到惨无人道的对待。
   
    在之后的十二、十三日，都不断有抗议静坐活动，十四日起，官方就以机关枪扫射游行静坐的群众，造成许多藏人的伤亡。根据才嘉指出，目前中共官方已经调动成都军区的兵力进入拉萨，兰州军区则针对四川与甘肃地区就近严加看管。虽然官方表示今天是最后通牒的期限，但是据他们了解，解放军与武警在17日凌晨就已经开始大规模的扫荡。
   
    才嘉表示，数年前中共官方要求不得悬挂达赖喇嘛的照片，被查到的公职人员一律遭到撤职，去年甚至要求藏人家中不可以有佛堂，遭到查获也将被撤职，让他们忍无可忍。才嘉说，藏人认为即使生命受到威胁，但是绝对不可以破戒，因此才会引发一连串的抗议事件。
   
    台湾西藏交流基金会副秘书长翁仕杰表示，藏人只是希望能够过藏人自己的生活而已，可是中国政府却用坦克、机关枪对准自己人，谋害自己的国民，「天底下哪有这种国家？」翁仕杰说，大家应该看清楚中国是什麽本质的国家，并仔细思考台湾会不会是下一个西藏。
