Two Austin, Texas furniture designers created the ringed pedestal dining table and saffron-colored chairs in this sunny breakfast nook adjoining the kitchen. Ample windows have a "low-e" coating to mitigate heat from the sun.
Casual Dining Ideas
You don't have to call in the carpenter to create great bench seating in your breakfast room. Proof of that is found in this Isle of Palms, South Carolina, home. The freestanding bench in the dining nook adds seating along two sides of the kitchen table. Fixed antique shutters create the effect of a wall and hide a stairway to the master bedroom. The weathered shutters look as though they came from a salty beachfront retreat.
Anchored by Stone
This cabana-themed breakfast room is outdoor fresh with its wicker chairs and a wooden table faux-painted to resemble stone.
Dining in Checkerboard Fashion
This cozy breakfast nook contains a mix of materials and has all the features of a covered porch. The ample windows and French doors make it feel as if you're eating outside. Designer Richard Black called for shiplap siding to be installed around the cased opening of the nook. This touch suggests that the passage was cut out of an existing exterior wall. Next, unlike the other rooms, the surrounding walls and ceiling of the breakfast area are finished with beaded-board paneling.
For the floor in this breakfast room, residential designer Richard Black chose three-inch-wide planks generally allocated for a porch. He also placed the surface slightly below that of the adjacent living room and sloped the floor ever so slightly. The subtle checkerboard pattern--which was a weekend project of taping off squares and applying a thin layer of alternating colors--gives this breakfast room a light, airy look.
Teak Hawaii
An elegant teak dining set, custom crafted in Bali, lends the room a touch of 19th-century Hawaii.
Poolside Dining
Blue-and-yellow striped draperies frame pocket glass doors that slide into the walls, allowing interiors to spill seamlessly onto the pool patio.
Breakfast Nook
Anchored by a pedestal table with a carved base and inlay top, the breakfast nook doubles as a spot for afternoon board games. Instead of traditional dining chairs, the table is surrounded by upholstered armchairs and a built-in window seat.
Dining in the Round
Taking advantage of its second-level location, this dining area offers 180-degree views of the coast. Monogrammed slipcovers pop off for easy laundering.
Tropical Breakfast Nook
Scrimshaw, paintings, and a globe dominate a corner of this breakfast nook. Black accessories, including rattan furnishings and iron curtain rods, give the breezy interior contrast.
Kitchen Decorations
Morning sunlight pours through new windows into the kitchen, where shelves showcase a collection of souvenir glasses from different states.
Bright and Comfortable
The furniture in this breakfast room shows off the homeowner's fondness for the Country French style. The tone-on-tone yellow plaid wallpaper contributes to the area's warmth. It's topped with a border featuring a series of plates with a floral motif. The space also features a rustic pine hutch for display and storage. The homeowner selected a durable, inexpensive sea grass rug that also works with her design statement.
Teak Tables
A teak table fills the dining porch with casual style. A teak serving cart with an Italian tile surface and trays makes entertaining easy.
Function Meets Style
This great room is filled with neutral tones. A couch, a coffee table, and a few chairs are near the fireplace which has a mirror on the mantle.
