Whatwe are witnessing is the first-ever economy based on an import-fedretail sector which supports a mutual, back-scratching service sector, all of which has been created with debt which the participants cannotafford. This has been made possible by a first-ever electronicfinancial system which has rendered all control structures archaic. Ifthe fiat dollar was indeed "infinite", then this financial sector wouldspiral Tower of Babel-like to the heavens leaving the economy alone tobarter its way out of oblivion. But, as in that famous biblical metaphor: Ata certain, inevitable, unpredictable altitude, the participants in thebuilding of the tower simultaneously realize the futility of theirendeavor. It is at that point that the hopers ask for their paychecksin order to attempt to descend the staircase without stumbling to theirdeath. Most don't make it. All these financialshenanigans have very little to do with us down here in the economy...except for the fact that the credit which has pretended to sustain us,is no more. So what? We will make do as we always havefor the simple reason that down here necessity has no restraints. Wetake one day at a time and see what tomorrow brings. Promises are for those who build stairways to Heaven. Promises are meant to be broken. Promises are for those who believe in History. History is at best, a simile. At worst it is a metaphor. Realistically: History is an opiate for those who pretend continuity in Life. |
