"Culture" is a neutral, common word, i.e. "chair," "kidney" etc. etc....
Every culture has its pros and cons .... the phrase "Cultural Clash" was coined by people who have no excuses for what has been going on between the U.S./West and the muslim world ....so, they "blame" it on "culture"....
There will be a great "cultural clash" between Chinese people and American right wingers if they invaded China for oil....and, millions of Chinese will become "terrorists"....

我在想两把“椅子”如果不是因为某种意图被有心人举起（两种不同 hearts 的冲突），如何能被砸得稀巴烂（“融合”）呢？那个外力需要有多强大？？:)))
律周，我也不是对你个人，我是对“文化冲突”这个概念很不能理解。。。我理解律周之所以这样说，可见文化在他心中的地位。。。如果文化能发生冲突引发战争，可见文化的荣光。。。
“冲突”不是一个“现象。”
“现象”笼统地理解是“不以人的意志为左右的，”如自然现象，生理现象等。
“冲突”在这里是人为的。
人为的，就不好仅以“现象”概之。比如，我们不能说男人打老婆，打孩子是一个“现象”而已。因为“人类美好的存在”不取决于这样的“现象”！！
"Cultural Clash"一说的来历就是为了混淆黑白。

我们不能轻易相信类似“文化冲突”这样看似“文明”“逻辑”的谬论。好比说日本法西斯当年侵华也是由于“文化冲突”一样。
每一个民族都有自己的特色，那不能叫“冲突。”如果伊拉克没有石油的话，数十万的伊拉克老百姓和千百个年轻的美国士兵也不会白白死去。
不错，萨达姆也曾政治迫害，消除异己，和中国“文革”时发生的悲剧没多少区别，那么，我们会支持一个超级强国在“文革”时继续侵华吗？
在美国，我们有幸能接触到多种消息/知识，所以，我们没有借口跟着强者身后起哄。

看上去像一场悬殊的差别太大的冲突，
看上去像一场没完没了的冲突
到底最后谁是胜者？
我觉得好像还是一场文化的冲突，不过这种文化冲突摩擦了很久，已经失去了文化身上的那些五彩的壳。
