observation from a Rockets fan for last night's game.
Lakers played very well on the road without LO. Bynum was never a big factor facing Yao. In fact, had he played Rockets might have got a better chance, forced to look for Yao more. Kobe is Kobe, MVP, enough said.
As we saw good discussion from Lakers fan, I guess it's only fitting to share my thoughts to fill the obligation as Rockets fan on this board - 抛砖引玉。
The game was frustrating for me, because it was totally winnable and _shoulda_ won. Let the blame game start:)
1. It started with RonRon who got trapped by Kobe, tried too hard to prove he's better than Kobe. How boneheaded can you be?!!! He played "well" in the last few games, because his 3s are falling, and some of them were very difficult ones. But I don't like how he played. He seemed to believe he's way better than he is, offensively. Too much 1 on 5, and he didn't play within the system. Last night, it totally back fired. He gambled too much on defense, and on offense, sigh...
2. Adelman shared as much blame as Artest, if not even more. He totally lost control over his players, if he ever tried. When Artest and AB absolutely went away from the game plan, if there was one to begin with, he had to react by calling timeout, demand them to calm down and stick with the plan. You got to be kidding me, as a head coach, you just let your players jacking up 30 3 pointers with an absolutely dismal rate without involving your big men at all for 2 and half quarters.
3. The third on the blame scale is unfortunately Yao Ming, the 7'6 "gentle" Giant. This guy just drives me crazy sometimes. If your coach is not taking care of you, HOW ABOUT YOU TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AS A BIG BOY? He and Scola were both 6-6 in the first 15 minutes they played, they managed to get both of them ONLY 3 shots in the next 20 some minutes. Coach sucked, and AB sucked, but how about Yao Ming, as a franchise player, demand the ball? Don't just waive to the midget AB, you ORDER him to pass you the rock! How about you don't wait for double team coming but rather make a decisive move as soon as you catch the ball? How about you don't put the ball down on the floor to invite strips from defense, no matter how deep you are in the paint? What if you catch and shoot? What if you attack some weak double team? Especially when you are 6-6, your teammates are building a huge brick house, how about SHOOT it by yourself? Nobody is going to fire you if you miss a shot! Better yet, how about stick your frigging elbows out after you catch a ball, so Kobe can't sneak around you to poke the ball away from your butter fingers? How about grab the rebounds with both hands, instead of butter-finger volleyballing it, no matter whether it's Scola, Landry, or Pau or Ariza besides you, you just grab it by yourself?
4. Battier, man, I love him as a team player, his professionalism, his intelligence, his hard working spirit, everything you wanted from the ultimate perfect teammate. But man, you are a starter on a playoff team in NBA, you have got to produce SOMETHING in offense. What are you, the new Rafer on the team, opposing team just ignore you at the 3 pointer line, DARE you to make a shot? If you are in a shooting slump, how about stepping in a few steps for a 2? How about trying to attack the basket once in a while? I know you are a defensive specialist, but man, you are from Duke, and you were a 20-points all-round player in college.
5. Arron Brooks, you love him and hate him, this jumpy midget. He's so much better a shooter than Rafer, but his playing making is non-exist. His ankle-high bounce pass to Yao Ming is killing me. Scared to death before he can pass a ball to Yao. Yao cannot seal off his man forever, you got to pass it when the window of opportunity is there, even at cost of potential turnovers. As a PG, your first job is to get others involved, especially that tall dude in the middle!
6. Von Wafer, that stretch of good games while TMac first went down, really got into his head. He's now becoming the new definition of blackhole ballhogging wannebe superstar in roleplayer's body. As soon as he gets the ball, everyone can just start to backpaddle to defense, because he will take a shot, no matter how, from no matter where. As a role player, he can manage to rack up 15 shots in 20 minutes in any game, that's just beyond me. Once again, Adelman, I am talking about you! As a coach, you are supposed to do a little bit more than sitting there looking frustrated.
I want to compliment Scola, Landry, and Lowry. I just like Scola's play, his toughness. Morey is indeed a genius. And for Lowry, the kid has bright future, if he can work on his shots in the offseason, add a 3 pointer to his arsenal, he will be starting in no time. He sees the floor well, predicts the play developing, he is a willing and able defender, he looks for pass first, and more importantly, as a PG, he looks the tallest and highest scorer on the team first. As ironic as it sounds, how rare is it? As soon as we get a lead, players go away from Yao, start to jack up own shots. 20 minutes later, when the going gets tough, they want Yao to pick up right at the spot to bail them out. No, Yao can't. Yao is no Kobe, he's a rhythm player, he needs continuous touches to be effective.
The Rockets team do have talents, but their basketball IQ is seriously lacking, starting from their leaders - Yao and Ron. That, ladies and gentlemen, I don't think we have a solution.
