Job performance said to be behind White House firing

The Bush administration has quietly asked San Diego U.S. Attorney Carol Lam, best known for her high-profile prosecutions of politicians and corporate executives, to resign her post, a law enforcement official said. Lam, a Bush appointee who took the helm in 2002, was targeted because of job performance issues – in particular that she failed to make smuggling and gun cases a top priority, said the official, who declined to be identified because Lam has yet to step down.

今天早上National Public Radio的Editor's Roundtable节目讨论了这个事件，专家们一致认为白宫是在滥用职权。其中一位说他几乎肯定"Carl Rove is behind it"。众所周知，Carol Lam 揪出了一个国会里的一个大害虫：就是前众议员Randy "Duke" Cunningham。此公完全把国会的拨款当成了自己的“要钱树”（此处不是笔误），尽管他本人已经入狱，但此案还涉及到很多别的政府官员，据传Carol Lam已经向国会的几个办公室下了传票，索要与几位政府要员有关的材料。如果调查下去，很可能会触及一些高官的利益，说不定包括白宫里的几位。

Carol Lam被fire的理由是没有在非法移民与毒品走私上尽力，这个理由相当的lame。她在政府清廉方面的贡献远远超过10000次的其他立案，按理说应该发个大奖章才对。这是一个美国社会的悲哀，“奸臣当道，好人受害”竟会在这个国家上演。其实Carol Lam并不是第一个let go的US Attorney，新墨西哥州的David Iglesias也已经宣布辞职，他说：“我是被迫辞职的。我问上面的人为什么，却没人告诉我。后来我还是同意了，毕竟当初我们接受这份工作时就知道我们是为总统做事，完全凭他的喜好。”

现在Carol Lam还没有宣布她的决定，Editor's Roundtable的一位专家说他希望Carol Lam拒绝辞职，让那些奸人们来fire她，这样把事情闹大，让更多的人来关注这件事，才能阻止政府的胡作非为。
