Dr. Kai-fu Lee, Google China, speaks about Chinese Students

Dr. Kai-fu Lee is the Vice President, Engineering and President of Google China.

In a recent panel discussion at the Committee of 100 tried to dispel a myth about Chinese students.

Simply...Chinese students and Chinese Universities are NOT universally amazing. Perhaps only the top 1% truely qualify. But since 1% of China is a lot it looks like a lot of students are amazing and it looks like the universities they come from are amazing.

But, Dr. Lee says, that is NOT true. And because 99% of Chinese universities do NOT get the funding that the top tier schools get, Chinese place an inordinate amount of weight on a school's ranking. When they apply for schools here in the states...they look for the same...a top tier school.

Tell you what....I learned something.
