Be Careful What You Wish For

One key reason why the U.S. economy has consistently outperformed Japan and Germany is that America has a much smaller manufacturing sector.

Since the early 2000s, chronic manufacturing recessions in both Japan and Germanycombined with intensifying global competitionhave significantly undermined economic growth in both countries.

So, is it really a smart strategy to try and rebuild Americas manufacturing base? More importantly, is it even possible to re-industrialize the U.S. economy in a profitable way?
