  • steal sb's thunder  - 抢风头;

来源于18世纪一个古老的故事。有位叫John Dennis的剧作家,为他的新剧发明了一种可以模仿雷声的机器。可这个剧在当时并不是很受欢迎,就被停演,剧院换成了上演 莎士比亚的《麦克白》。但丹尼斯发现自己发明的雷声在这部戏剧里出现了,于是他生气地抱怨:“They will not let my play run … but they steal my thunder!”

Harry was delighted when he passed his driving test, but his brother stole his thunder by getting engaged on the same day. 通过驾驶考试时感到很高兴,但他的兄弟在同一天订婚,抢了他的风头。

 

  • steal sb's thunder  - 抢头功, (含贬义)

My partner stole my thunder when he told the professor that he did all the work on the presentation.

 

  • take credit (for other’s work) - 抢走被人的功劳

It is so annoying when someone steals your thunder and takes credit for the work you've done.

Stand up for yourself if you feel your coworker is stealing your thunder because it is important that you get credit for the work you've done.

  • steal the spotlight/ limelight - 抢镜头; 出风头,the limelight/spotlight = public attention and interest; 公众关注

The experimental car certainly stole the limelight at the motor show. 这款实验车型无疑在车展上出尽了风头。

 

  • steal the show/scene - 最受欢迎;最为出彩, (褒义)

The opening band totally stole the show tonight—they were amazing. 开幕乐队今晚演出最受欢迎 - 他们很棒。
