Q: Are the Chinese grateful to America for saving them from the Japanese in WW2?
A:
The contributions of US and KMT in fighting against Japan has been always recognized in China. The memorial sites in honour of US, Soviet, and KMT in their contributions to the fight against Japan in China are well maintained. Memorials of Chiang Kai-shek are treated better in Mainland China than in Taiwan.
In 2014, China broadcast a 40-episodes TV series called Flying Tigers, in memory of the US contribution to the Anti-Fascist War in China.
This the site of Defense of Sihang Warehouse, now a museum memorizing KMT army fighting Japan invasion. This is the same KMT army Chiang Kai-shek sent to Encirclement Campaign against Jiangxi Soviet.
CCP encourage Chinese people to pay tribute for the KMT army who died in Anti-Japanese-invasion.
Those who fought against the Japanese occupation have always been recognized in China, with some ups and downs in the intensity and magnitude according to some political atmosphere. If Japan is friendly to China, these activities may be less intensive.
Xiaoming Guo's answer to Do Chinese in China recognize the U.S importance in WWII against Japan?
If America does not take the credit of the Bombing Japan for the sake of Nanjing Massacre, Chinese just don’t know if their thanks will be accepted by American.
Do Americans allow Asian especially Chinese to go to Hiroshima to thank the Bombing? If Americans allow, and they can as they have military bases in Japan, I am sure Chinese would like to thank Americans. It will boost the tourism of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by rushing Chinese tourists.
Please read the Remarks by President Obama and Prime Minister Abe of Japan at Hiroshima Peace Memorial
Did Obama mention anything about Bombing Japan for China in his remark at Hiroshima?
I would like to see the following scenario:
Chinese: Thank you Americans to drop the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Obama: You are welcome. We fought Nazi Japan together. We fought the axis together. And I would like to thank Chinese for helping us to fight Nazi Japan too.
Chinese: Let’s remember the history and prevent military Japan arms again.
If Americans expect a thank from Asians, they have to take the credit first. If they don’t want to take the credit, Asians just don’t know how to thank even they want to.
