Chapter Two - IceFire’s Secret
Hallie was startled. Her jaws dropped dead, she felt as if she was going to faint… She saw Mallory, Hallie couldn’t believe it; Mallory was dressed like a fat forest bear prepared for winter hibernation-ha-ha! But what was most shocking was what Hallie saw through Mallory’s bedroom window. A DRAGON-No! Two dragons. They were perched in the sky, looking identical to what fairytales described, well, they’re not fairytales anymore! One dragon looked like her guinea pig, IceFire, except she was shadow blue with a trace of purple. And the other was silver with sketchy outlines of violet. The face was very familiar, could it be? YES! The dragons were-she gasped-their guinea pigs!
My guinea pig? Wow! I’m so lucky! Hallie gasped. Wait, could it be a hologram? “Mallory? Is that,” Hallie pointed blankly at, “a hologram or is it REAL?”
“Of course it’s real! You wouldn’t think I would pull a scheme on you would you?” Mallory laughed lightly, “We have a full moon today, so just as I was brushing…”
“You groom MoonFire?”
“Isn’t that OBVIOUS?” More like impossible! Hallie considered.
“Okay, continue your story Mallory,” Hallie commanded.
“Anyways, as I said, I was grooming MoonFire and suddenly she disappeared like-POOF!” Mallory gestured for a more vivid image, “my heart was pounding-it probably would hit jackpot on the ‘Test Your Strength’ game in last year’s carnival too-so, I opened my window and saw… And saw two dragons, one blue and one silver.”
“One dusk blue mixed with a faint color of lavender, the other was silver with a hint of violet, because they’re not just blue and silver Mallory!” Hallie corrected.
“Don’t cut in if you want to hear the story!” Mallory insisted rudely, “As said, I saw them. So I started a conversation with them, I learned that IceFire and MoonFire becomes a dragon every full-mooned midnight and transforms back into a cute guinea pig at 1:30 sharp. But if the moon ever becomes hidden in the clouds, they’ll become weak and cannot carry on a fight, but she protested that the moon is never shaded so we don’t have to worry. Also, they are, I mean the guinea pigs we got, are official wild beast hunters. If any wild beasts escape from their world, the nasty creatures will cause trouble, so when a beast has escaped and they know, the beast-hunters will alert the closest wild beast catcher and inform them. So I went to the hallway to tell you just as you opened your door…” Mallory recited.
“What a dumb story. Like I’d ever believe that!” Hallie teased. But inside her she was thinking; if what Mallory said was true, the shiny blue thing that sailed over the sky last time she saw, it was a full moon too, so it has to be a dragon! Still, Hallie didn’t trust Mallory completely.
