Live-edge Walnut Computer Desk
Since Coivd started my LP has been working at home and she always complained about her desk not being too high for her and making her back tired and aching. So I decided to make a customized computer desk according to her height.
What kind of wood to be used was the first decision. LP wanted expensive wood and would have a nice appearance. Expensive wood, I know her preference for sure, but she always forgot she has a cheap hubby. Okey, let’s use expensive wood: purple heart! I did a rough calculation and the wood will cost about $3000-5000, not including paint, hardware and tax. No, it is too expensive, I am cheap but not dump! Finally we decided to use Walnut! Walnut sounds good, looks good and the price is almost good too. The cost for wood would be around 500-600 dollars. It is still too much for me, but my wife assured me that if we use good wood and make a good desk, then it will be passed to my grand-child, grand-grand-child, and even longer, and I will be remembered for a long long time. Yes, I can not only focus on current financial issues and neglect the long-term prospect! Walnut, I decided.
After I made the desktop, my wife said it was narrow and wanted it wider, so I added another
Board and now it is wider than the room door width. How can it be moved to the room after it was assembled? The solution is to make it disassemblable: the frame/drawers and the desktop.
The desk is absolutely solid walnut wood, even the drawers are made of solid walnut board. The three drawers cost almost the same amount of wood as the desktop and frame.
