I always seeing family people go to Home Depot buying paint. I was wondering would I do it myself. This time I decided to do it myself. What an experience, nightmare, and fun I got!
My conclusion :
Paint Job is woman's job. Because paint a house is like putting makeup on your face. Woman might be more carefully of how does it look like, for me, it is just to complete a cover-up work.
After some study, I decide to use BEHR 2050 as base and adding color "clear moon" for most of the house, and use BEHR 3050 as base and adding color "clear-moon" for bathroom and kitchen. I bought a 5 gallon paint (130.00) and several rollers and started the job. The house is 3B/2.5Bath/Dinning/Kitchen/Family room style house, the living space is only 1260 sqf. I started with one room, immediately I encounter a problem. While approaching to the corner, the roller can not reach it. Then another big problem came to me, the ceiling. It is pop-corn texture style ceiling. The roller just can not place the paint on it. Beside, to hold the roller up high is very tired thing (the roller is 18").
I decided to buy a paint sprayer to do the job then. After some studies again, I bought an electrical paint sprayer and some needed parts. It costs me near 300.00 total. The 1st time use of the sprayer is kind of easy. Following the instructions, I can easier paint the room quickly. Wall, ceiling.. etc. I was very happy and confident that I could do the job that time. But ....
<1> 1/3 of the paint are wasting on the floor, because while paint to the ceiling, I did not make right distance.
<2> My wall start to show Line in both X/Y directions. It was caused by inexperience of using the machine.
<3> The machine get clog by the paint after 1st use and without deep clean. It ended up, I use the machine 3 times, and total paint time is 1.5 hours, but 7 hours more were wasting on doing trouble shooting.
<4> Total paint I used : 5 x 5 gal + 3 X 1 gal.
I probably save 1,000.00 from hiring professional service, and I had my fun for 3 weeks comparing a 4 days professional service. However most important, I learned a good lesson.
