Maya civilization, the pre-Columbian Americas.

Great questions—let’s unpack the mystery together:

Who made the Mayan ruins?

They were built by the Maya civilization, an indigenous Mesoamerican people who developed one of the most sophisticated cultures of the pre-Columbian Americas. The Maya are known for their:

  1. Complex writing system (the only fully developed one in the Americas),
  2. Stunning architecture (temples, palaces, observatories),
  3. Advanced astronomy and mathematics,
  4. Deeply spiritual religion with gods tied to nature, time, and cycles.
  5. They began building ceremonial centers as early as 2000 BCE, and many of the grandest cities—like Tikal, Palenque, and Chichen Itzá—flourished between 250 CE and 900 CE, during what's called the Classic Period.

Who abandoned (or "dumped") it—and why?

The ruins we see today were abandoned over time, not suddenly, and not by aliens! The reasons are complex and still debated, but likely include:

  • Environmental stress (deforestation, drought, soil depletion),
  • Political instability and war between city-states,
  • Social upheaval—people may have lost faith in their rulers and religious elites,
  • Possibly climate change (a major drought is thought to have struck in the 9th century).

By around 900 CE, many of the southern lowland cities were deserted. However, the Maya people never disappeared—millions of Maya descendants still live today in parts of Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and Honduras.

Was it aliens?

No solid evidence supports the alien theory—though it pops up often in pop culture. All archaeological evidence points to the Maya themselves: ingenious engineers, artists, and astronomers who left behind a stunning legacy.

So, in short:

Who built it? The Maya.

Who left it? The Maya, due to various environmental and societal pressures.

Aliens? Nope—just brilliant humans with time, tools, and vision.

(El Castillo)

  • 清洁工看到的是羽蛇神“现身”的光影奇观;

  • 它体现了玛雅人将宗教信仰、建筑艺术和天文观测融为一体的智慧;
