Please do NOT say "Chinese" New Year! Feb 12 is the first day of the Lunar New Year, celebrated by Hong Kongers, Taiwanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Indonesians, Malaysians, Singaporeans, Macanese, Hakkas and many other peoples around the world, not just the Chinese. The Chinese do NOT own the Lunar Calendar or any festivals/traditions. Not even the Chinese inside China use this term, "Chinese New Year". They usually say Spring Festival (春節) and Experience the Year (過年).
For the Tibetans and Mongols, the New Year's Day this year is the same day on Feb 12, according to their calendars. This new year is 2148, the Year of the Iron Ox, according to the Tibetan calendar. The Lunar/Solar New Year for the Mongols is called Tsagaan Sar.
Just my annual gentle reminder: as we protest China's colonialism, pls do not let the CCP brainwashing get into our subconscious. No need to say Chines New Year Thank you ???? Our new year days do NOT have nationalities. Words are important. Language is power.
