I am reading “The Botany of Desire” by Michael Pollan for the second time. This is a very successful book, which is very unusual for a book about plants. I always wonder why this book is so successful, and what I can learn from the author. Here are what I think:
1. He views things from a different angle. He sees the relationships between people and plants from a different view – a plant’s point of view.
2. He integrates history, philosophy, art, mythology, and many other fields into the stories and makes these stories very interesting.
3. He chooses right plants – apple, tulip, potato, and marijuana, and each of those has a fascinating story to tell.
I wish that I could write a book like this. From today, my diary will focus on thisbook for a couple of weeks, and I will write down something I learned from this book each day.
