I don't know why we talked about Japan and Japanese. He asked me questions as he used to. So this time it was about Japan. He asked me why Chinese could not forgive Japanese, because his Japanese friend told him that Japanese no longer hate Americans for dropping nuclear bombs in their cities.
Why Americans are forgiven even when they didn’t say sorry to the Japan (Please do keep it in mind the bombs were dropped for good reasons, it bettered off the whole world at the time, right?). Isn’t the phenomenon sickening by itself? But it is not really that hard to understand it if one knows a little about Japan’s history. A crowded people lived in a narrow land and along the year those who were stronger survived. Everything is about how to survive, even at the expense of getting rid of the loved ones such as the elder by throwing them into the valleys and starving them to death. It is a strangely narrow-minded and harsh people. It is a people that would do such things to those who have loved them and contributed but couldn’t contribute any more! It is true it is not necessarily so nowadays, because after all they have got at least enough food. However this personality is deeply rooted there. To think about how those Japanese kidnapped by terrorists in Iraq were treated by their own people; instead of making efforts to save them, the massive of its society scolded these few poor Japanese mercilessly for harming their society for “selfish reasons”. I cannot believe this would ever happen with Chinese people, or any other people who still has a heart.
So it is not difficult to understand this people will whole-heartedly kneel down at his enemies’ face once it is beaten. But I wonder what if one day, America is no longer the strongest in the world, what if it is beaten someday by Japan. No one is guaranteed to be No 1 forever. In this case one got to be really careful with those who claimed they had forgiven him.
I guess that is why, personally, it is quite disgusting even to think of a people, who is not open and who has no heart for human equality and brotherly love, and who has committed so many crimes to other people but never think of apologizing for their wrong-doings and they would even shamelessly ask people to forget it. How come it would think it its place to ask for that? Isn’t that too much to ask? I simply found myself see no hope in a people with a personality like that.
