Work in Progress

Here is a 30"x30" unfinished still life oil painting I have been working on since Thanksgiving. The photo is a little out of focus yet the color and the mood are clearly shown. I am happy with the color and the mood so I am posting it here for a quick review. My intention is to depict the rich light and color the at the background and the shadow area on the table top. The composition is mainly about the organic line of the leaves and the shape of the vase contrasting with the monochromatic background.  The leaves and stems are not yet painted; the horizontal line is off so I need to fix it. The current stage is still very much a sketch yet it is quite promising with a very good start.

Concurrently, I am also working on some miniature paintings (They are called ACEO. See note below); they are 2.5"x3.5" as you can see they are the size of a poker card. The majority paintings below are in oil; some are pastel. These are also work in progress. (The two photos at the upper right corner are reference materials for other paintings.)  Wondering when I will be able to finish them all.  My working habit is not a linear progress. See my point is I like to paint multiple paintings at a time. I like to start one, let it dry a bit, wait for a few days and rework them again. I will start a fresh mind after a few days so I know where the problems are and fix them then. Rarely can I finish a painting in one day. Other painters can as they are so efficient that they finish a painting in just a few hours, for example, Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Cezanne, and Picasso. A- painting-a-day folks are super efficient.

Princess Phoebe           5"x7"   Oil on canvas board

Above is a slightly larger painting which is a 5"x7" canvas board which I have just started today with outlines and a background. Already, I like it the way it looks!!! I probably should stop painting it before I ruin it as I normally would. Less is more.

NOTE: ACEO (Art Cards, Editions and Originals) are miniature works of art about the same size as modern baseball cards or 2 ½ X 3 ½ inches (63 mm X 89 mm).
