Every major international bank that is headquartered in the European Union has passed EU-wide stress tests, the BBC has learnt.

Only smaller, regional banks have failed the tests, BBC business editor Robert Peston said. Those banks will be forced to raise additional capital.

The UK\'s four major banks - RBS, Lloyds, HSBC and Barclays - were among the banks tested.

The Financial Services Authority had already said it expected the UK banks to pass the tests.
