In this bizarre film, bound to be a cult classic, insanely narcissistic (closeted) Monty flexes his muscles all day, sexually taunting his cute little brother who in turn plays with a loin-cloth covered, very small Asian man crouching in his human birdcage, to which he is chained. It doesn't get weirder or more homoerotic than in this surreal trip of a film.
Monty is a bodybuilder. His gym is the very heart of his existence. He is aggressively male, outrageously narcissistic and a bigot. Sharing this strange world is Monty’s cerebral and emotionally wounded younger brother, Bertin. One stormy day, the brothers’ bizarre but settled lives are suddenly disrupted by the unexpected arrival of Lilith, a Catholic nun collecting contributions for an unusual cause. Lilith’s arrival is the catalyst required to generate a momentous change in Bertin’s relationship with his brother: a change that results in the astonishing and gruesome downfall of the vainglorious Monty.
Monty (the extraordinarily buff Trevor Goddard) is a freak bodybuilder/closet case/crazed man. His endless workout and his self-love are the very heart of his peculiar existence. Aggressively male, Monty is outrageously narcissistic (he loves his cock and his love doll!) and a rude bigot. Monty has several outfits, all of which are skin-tight, barely holding his muscles and privates in their flimsiness. Sharing this strange otherworldly existence is Monty's cerebral, passively homosexual and emotionally wounded younger brother, Bertin (Rudy Davis). Monty begs his brother to play with him sexually, taunting him with his mound. And there's also an older Asian man, chained into an over-sized bird cage. He's taunted by Bertin as if he's a toy; we're not sure just who he is. One stormy day, the brothers' bizarre but settled lives are suddenly disrupted by the unexpected arrival of Lilith (Sally Kirkland), a Catholic nun collecting contributions for an unusual cause. Lilith's arrival is the catalyst required to generate a momentous change in Bertin's relationship with his brother: a change that results in the astonishing and gruesome downfall of the vainglorious Monty. Absolutely one of the strangest movies we've seen, Flexing with Monty is kooky, twisted and fun.
The film took over 14 years to complete due to the deaths of the original producer and the lead actor during the production process. The film started shooting in 1994 and was finally completed in 2008. It was Trevor Goddard's first starring role when the film began. In a twist of fate, it was also his last acting role as he died weeks after finishing his final scene in the film in 2003. Due to financial restraints, the remainder of the production and post-production process took a further 5 years to complete.
