年近50岁的闻瑞泽在这个京剧艺术衰落、被遗忘和忽视的时代，一直为自己热爱的京剧事业执著坚持。与此同时，闻瑞泽的妻子——舞蹈演员的雪华的事业却如日 中天。这导致了他们心理的极度不平衡，造成了两人之间的距离越来越远。闻瑞泽的压抑和恐慌不仅来源与婚姻的危机、女儿的叛逆、工作的停滞、上有老下有小的 生存压力，还有难言的疾病等等。身份不为人知的女儿在卷入一段充满纠葛的感情抉择后，亲手揭开了真相。
闻瑞泽和母亲两代人共同掩盖的“家庭秘密”，最终导致了他婚姻的破裂。老母亲也在被雪华发现这隐瞒了二十年的秘密后旧病复发，撒手人寰。闻瑞泽用男人最大 的毅力坚持着自己的事业，用宽广的胸襟包容着妻子的背叛，沉痛的压抑着内心里女儿不为人知的身世。随着更年期的到来他面临着前所未有的生理变化、事业挑 战、家庭分裂，他能否挺的过去？他们还能在一起吗？
闻瑞泽的弟弟闻瑞含——一个被母亲收养的、用自身的血液维持哥哥生命的人，一个靠着不断地付出和努力已拥有成功的事业和幸福家庭的人，但是当儿子闻亮在母 亲秀芬偏激的教育方法下拒绝参加高考而执意要去学做厨师；妻子秀芬又对他无中生有的外遇猜疑和歇斯底里式的纠缠，再到儿子意外卷入一起杀人案件，直至最后 连妻妹秀杰也被卷入到这场家庭危机之中……的时候，他和妻子的关系激化到了难以调和的地步，双方都陷入到束手无策、痛苦不堪的局面当中。面对叛逆的儿子、 更年期妻子神经质的纠缠，甚至被压抑到与妻子的妹妹产生了一段荒唐的感情之后，他又是如何面对这一切的？他们还能在一起吗？
