Today was the last day of school before winter break. My dad had a day off so he drove us to school.Everybody had to line up to go inside since there were about 750 kids that go to my school! When I wentin my classroom I saw lots of people wearing cultural outfits except me. Today was Cultural Day so we couldwear our traditional outfits. If we didn't have one we could wear green or red because it represents Christmasand that was what I did. Chinese people wore 民族服装, Indians wore tunics, and Canadians wore casual clothes. Some students also gave our teacher gifts to appreciate their generosity. Soon we had to go have an assembly. All the grade fours were in the assembly. The MC's talked about allthe celebrations other cultures celebrated including Chinese New Year, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and more. Then two grade four classes danced a cultural dance. After, the other grade four classes (including me)played songs on our recorder like Jingle Bells. When we were done playing, the other two classes gotsplit into partners and one person would talk about their traditional celebrations in their language, andthe other person translated into English. Soon the assembly ended... Then we had Carol Singing. We sang lots of christmas songs but none of them were my favourites whichwere "White Christmas" and "Silver Bells." Suddenly, in the middle of Carol Singing we had a draw, whoevergot picked from the draw they could come up and get a prize! They picked two kids from each grade. Ingrade 4, believe it or not I got picked up from the draw and got some fake reindeer antlers with a bell.It was my first time! After Carol Singing we had recess to cool out in the fresh air. When we went inside from recess my class playedJeopardy. In Jeopardy you pick a category then a number, the higher number you pick the harder the question is.The categories were "Light and Shadow" where you have to answer questions about light and shadow. "NetherRegions" where you have to answer questions about the regions in Alberta. One that I forgot. "Do you know eachother?" where you have to guess which student in the class the teacher was talking about. "Things heard in Room 213"(my classroom number) where you have to say the quote that the teacher was talking about. The class got split into3 teams; row 1, row 2, and row 3. Row 1 won the first jeopardy (I was in that row)! Then we had lunch. Not just any lunch, but pizza lunch!!! It was scrumptious! After lunch we wentoutside. I played in the snow. When we went back inside from lunch recess, in my class there weretwo presentations. They were very good! But I think mine was even better. Then we continued our jeopardyby playing "Double Jeopardy" This time your points will get doubled if you get the question right. Thecategories were "Problem Child" where the teacher reads a math question and you have to tell him thesignal word of the math problem. One that I forgot. "Know Your Teachers" where you have to guesswhich teacher in the school he is talking about. "Mad Scientist" where a scientist is going crazy abouta science problem so you have to answer it for him. "Picture It!" where you have to tell the teacherwhat the picture is representing. Row 1 won again! Finally we continued our jeopardy by playing "Final Jeopardy." It was only a hard question though. In Final Jeopardy we had to wager an amount of points, if we got the hard question right we wouldget that much points and if you got it wrong you would lose the amount of points you wagered. So it was really risky! Row 1 wagered 300 points since they wanted the keep in lead. Row 2wagered 400 points. And Row 3 wagered 2500 points since they were in last place. No one gotthe question wrong so they lost some points. It seemed that Row 1 won with a total of 7421 points! We earned a lollipop, ruler, and a bookmark. After a tiring game of jeopardy we had french. In french we made cards for our parents where wemade a christmas tree using origami. It was really hard though! But at the end it turned outbeautiful. We glued it on the front of our card. On the inside we wrote christmas greetings infrench. Then we translated it into English. After french some people handed out candy since it wasthe last day of school before winter break. When we were leaving our teacher said good-bye toeveryone. It was the best day of school ever! (well at least so far) P.S: Our teacher wrote thank you notes for everybody who gave him a present.2009-12-20
