Little phrase such hang out, hook up and make out always confuse

I can kind of guess their meaning, and today I actually looked them up. My culture doesn't permit me to easily hang out, hook up or make out. That is not a complaint nor blame. Other  cultures allow it and cultivate it, it is their culture.  It does not mean it is good, nor bad, it is their culture and choice. It doesn't mean that we will have to practice and follow even if that culture is the so-called dominant culture.

I do not encourage or discourage my kids to hang out, or hook up with anybody. I do caution them not to do it out of peer pressure or the need to fit it, or the need to please someone else.

There is nothing wrong for  a group of friends spending time at McDonald's on a Sunday afternoon, even if it implies it is cheap and cheesy, so long they do not overstay and trash the place.
